Create a new ICON on your desktop called "Recovery". The target should be:
"q:\rmcobol\runcobol.exe recovery.cob". Make certain the start-in directory is pointed at the q:\rmcobol drive and directory. Also make certain there is a single space between the words runcobol.exe and recovery.cob in the target.

Run the recovery program by double clicking the icon you just created. You should see a large white screen prompting you for the name of the "Indexed File":

If you do not see this screen then call Geneva's support department. If you do see this screen then proceed to the next step
|
|
| 3 |
Enter the full pathname of the file that needs to be recovered and press Enter. Make absolutely certain you specify the drive letter and the full complete pathname of the file in question. |
|
| 4 |
The screen should now be prompting you to enter the name of a "drop file". This is a file that the recovery program writes any "bad" or "unrecoverable" records to. It has never been used in these types of recoveries and is a mere formality. Make certain you specify a full pathname and call this file "drop".

After you enter a proper drop file path and name, press Enter. It will ask you to "Press RETURN When Ready!"

If you typed everything correctly and the program found the file you will see the main recovery screen:

Enter a "Y" to confirm the index file is indeed the file you wish to recover. The screen will change a little bit and it will ask you one final time
Do You Wish to Proceed with the Recovery?
Enter a "Y" here and the recovery process will begin. It does not take long and when it is finished the white screen will disappear.

Recovery Terminated Abnormally
most likely someone is running a Quantum program that still has that file open. Exit the recovery program and have that person exit Quantum, then try again.
|
|
| 1 |
Program 'recover' terminated with return code 1
most likely the path and/or name of the data file was spelled incorrectly. You should also see a message on the white screen that says something to the effect (q:\data\ccempfil.dat does not exist - execution terminated). Exit this screen and try again.
You may also want to check the byte size of the file you are trying to recover. If the byte size is zero then it looks like you, or someone else, used the file pathname as the drop file -- someone used the same file as the "file to recover" and the "drop file". When Quantum creates a blank file it may have 4096 bytes or more. Zero byte files can be created by the drop file logic in the recovery process. If this is the case then restore your missing file from backup and check to see how old it is from the last posting.

Recovery of filename terminated with return code 1
most likely you spelled the path of the drop file incorrectly or referenced a directory that does not exist. Check your spelling and try again.

Recovery of filename terminated with return code 1
it appears you are attempting to create the drop file in a directory you do not have permission to create files in. Contact your system administrator to change your permissions or redirect the drop file pathname to a directory you have full access to
