Hardware Key Installation
Part of Quantum's permanent registration is to attach a "hardware key" to your network server (or any PC on the network). This hardware key provides Quantum with a "machine specific number" to ensure that only one copy of Quantum is running on your system.

This procedure describes the steps to initially install on your system as well as the considerations for moving the hardware key to another machine in your network.

1 Physically install the hardware key (parallel port or serial port w/ adapter) on your network server or a PC that is connected to the network

2 Run a program (provided in Quantum) called "mcbasrvr.exe" from the machine that has the hardware key installed on it. You should see a white screen appear with the word "Machine Specific Number" on it. Next to that message should be a five or six digit number.

3 Each of the PCs that will be Quantum workstations must find the machine with the hardware key via a valid TCP/IP address. Each workstation running Quantum will have an "mcba.ini" file resident on them. Inside that file is a line for MCBASERVER with a tcp/ip address next to it. Make certain that address is the one for the machine with the hardware key physically attached to it.

Tips and Troubleshooting
When running the "mcbasrvr.exe" program -- if you receive a winsock.dll error message you will need to install the hardware key driver. Do this by following these steps from the NT Server:
1 Locate a file called HARDWKEY.EXE on in the Sp2dir directory inside your main Quantum directory. It is a self-extracting zip file -- run it.
2 Locate a program called SETUPX86 (this is an application dll file) and run it. You should now see a big white screen.
3 Click "Functions" in the upper right hand corner and then click "Install Sentinel Driver". You should see this screen:

Leave the pathname as it defaults and click the "OK" button. You should now see a message indicated the hardware key driver was installed successfully. Now repeat the step of running MCBASRVR.EXE from the machine with the hardware key physically attached to it. There should be no more winsock error messages.

When running the mcbasrvr.exe program you see the following message:

This message appears when you are running the "mcbasrvr.exe" program from a machine other than the one that has the hardware key physically attached to it OR the hardware key needs to be reseated in the port you originally installed it on. They can work themselves loose especially if they are bumped or brushed against.
